Wissahickon Valley received a grant from the North Penn VNA

The Wissahickon Valley Boys & Girls Club received a Spring grant award of $10,000 from the North Penn VNA to furnish their new kitchen.  The new Boys & Girls Club includes a large kitchen space that was in need of renovations, appliances, furniture and  kitchen accessories.  Thanks to the VNA, the space was used for our Kids in the Kitchen program throughout the school year. During the summer our campers used the space to whip up recipes during activity time! We appreciate the continued support of the North Penn VNA!

Growing With Our Garden

This summer, our gardening skills were put to the test! We learned a lot along the way and some of us even discovered a newfound love of fruits and veggies!

Over the course of the summer, we harvested arugula, cherry tomatoes, endless amounts of spinach, zucchini and green beans. Our beets were delicious and so was the corn! We created yummy recipes using these fresh veggies and our campers learned to love foods that they were once afraid of! With such an abundance of freshness, we were able to sell bunches of arugula, spinach, beets and snap peas for 25 cents in front of our building!

We cannot wait to see what tasty treats our fall crops bring. Stay tuned!

Friday Fiesta!

Last Friday, Wissahickon Valley commenced the first school year in our new building with a taco party! Thanks to Dos Hermanos Tacos, we were able to provide a tasty treat to all of our members and their families.

Gabriel and his crew from the taco truck helped us pull off quite a fiesta! In addition to tacos, weserved fresh Butterhead lettuce and arugula salad from our garden, strawberries, tortilla chips and water ice to cool us down!

Friday’s fiesta was our way of thanking our students, their families and our volunteers for helping us make the 2017/2018 school year a success! Thank you to our wonderful community for supporting us in more ways than we can count! We are looking forward to even more learning and laughing next school year!
