It Truly Takes a Village

As the African proverb goes, “It takes a village to raise a child.” With the ups and downs that come with 21st century living, this saying holds true today more than ever before.

As many of you know, our Wissahickon Valley site is located in the heart of West Ambler. Here, we serve 72 children from the Wissahickon School District. Monday through Friday, 72 children come to us for homework assistance. 72 children come to us to talk about their day. 72 children come to us to eat a yummy snack or learn how to cook with Ms. Robyn. 72 children come to us to feel more confident in their math fact fluency and reading fluency. 72 children come to us to be a part of a community; to be a part of something greater than themselves, their school lives and their home lives. 72 children come to us because our Wissahickon Valley Boys & Girls Club is a big family where all feel comfortable.

With this in mind, we cannot provide the safe, welcoming and conductive learning environment that we do without our community. Just this week, we were reminded how vital the Ambler community is to this site.

Owner of Ambler’s Privé Salon, Kathryn Picarux and employee Eric Robinson, raise money annually for local charities of choice. This year, we were lucky enough to be a beneficiary of a large monetary donation! The donation made by the Salon will support our efforts in sustaining a positive learning environment for our members. Next school year, we will have 82 children attending our site and in anticipation, this donation is SO greatly appreciated!

We are thrilled that Privé Salon and their clients have chosen to support the community in which they work and live. In turn, we are able to also support our community – “It takes a village to raise a child.”
